Each year ACPOHE holds an annual conference and a number of ACPOHE approved courses for our members. Conference is held in May each year at different venues around the country.
ACPOHE Conference 2010
The conference for 2010 will be held on 6th & 7th May at the Beardmore Hotel in Clydebank near Glasgow. The Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Occupational Health & Ergonomics (ACPOHE) Conference 2010 is
expected to be one of our most exciting conferences yet.
Fit to Work- Work to Fit will look at all aspects of Occupational Physiotherapy providing two days packed with the latest news, speakers renowned for their expertise, case studies, workshops and as always the opportunity to meet other colleagues for informal discussion

Courses
ACPOHE also regularly runs courses for physiotherapists. For the last few years there have been two courses; Occupational Health – an Introductory Course for Physiotherapists and Applied Ergonomics for Therapists. In early 2009, ACPOHE began submitting a full course program to the CSP for endorsement. This process is ongoing, with the CSP recently endorsing the Introduction to Occupational Health course.
The course program is being designed to cover an even wider array of topics and practical skills training for physiotherapists who work or wish to work in the fields of Occupational Health & Ergonomics.
Office Workstation (DSE) Ergonomics for Physiotherapists

This two day course has been designed for physiotherapists who have had limited or no experience in the area of conducting office ergonomics assessments or who are looking for a refresher.
The course covers relevant health & safety law and regulations, the Health & Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 as amended 2002 in particular, the relevant implications of the Disability Discrimination Act, risk factors for work related musculoskeletal disorders, how to conduct a comprehensive workstation (DSE) ergonomics assessment for an individual including the use of anthropometric measurement, report writing and consent and confidentiality issues for such assessments and explores the recommendations that can be made following such assessments. The course has a high practical element.

Introduction to Applied Ergonomics For Therapists

This course is a highly practical, interactive programme designed to provide the basic core skills essential to practice at a higher level in the field of physiotherapy practice in Occupational Health. The course will enable physiotherapists to conduct an ergonomics risk assessment in the workplace, predominantly concentrating on physical factors. A number of ergonomics risk assessment tools will be taught. The delegate will be able to undertake an ergonomics assessment of an individual, or a small group in a setting where the issues are mainly physical. The delegate will be able to prepare a suitable report of such assessments, with recommendations to manage identified risk.

Occupational Health:
An Introductory Course For Physiotherapists
This three day course aims to inform physiotherapists who are starting work in an Occupational setting or undertaking work for business and industry from their own private practices of the key issues and best practice in Occupational Health.
The course covers the role of the physiotherapist in the OH team, awareness of the scope of health and safety law, the DDA and the Human Rights Act. Issues of confidentiality, consent, record keeping and audit will be tackled along with key issues to be aware of when carrying out health and safety risk assessments.

Introduction to Functional Measurement and Fitness for Work Assessment

This 3 day course is particularly suitable for clinicians who are required to comment on functional ability at work. There will be a mix of theory and practical activities. The value of using functional measures alongside clinical findings to support the decision making will be explained and topics such as reliability, safety, sensitivity, and validity of tests explored. Participants will have an opportunity to use a range of selected test equipment. Sample case studies will be used to illustrate the method of relating test selection to job demands.
This course will equip participants with skills and knowledge to enhance their clinical reasoning and reporting. However, please note that it is not a 'stand alone' FCE course.
